 | Dogs are a big part of our lives; some are companions while others serve mankind without fret and expecting anything in return except for our love and attention. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from them. They do not judge and quick to forget the wrong that we do, most of all they love us unconditionally. Even though each breed has a standard expected characteristic and personality of that particular breed; all dogs have their own unique characters and personality that distinguishes them as an individual in the doggy world. |

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. . . .He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. . . .When all other friends desert, he remains." - George G Vest

First off I would like to thank the owner of DogTrainster.com for allowing me to be the training consultant. I consider this a great honor. You have read my bio, but I will elaborate on it a bit more.I have been training dogs since about the age of 6. That gives me 40 years to figure the mind of a dog out. And I can tell you upfront that I have still allot to learn. In the training of a dog, there are no experts because there will always be a new dog with a new way of thinking. You cannot train two dogs the same way. What works for one might not work for another. Keep that in mind. |

The Dominance Theory by Norma Jeanne Laurette |
Let me begin by saying I was taught the “dominance” theory - as it pertains to our pet dog's and their interactions with us, their guardians. Within my first year of instructing dog training classes, I stopped using choke chains, pinch (prong) collars, alpha rolls and all use of force or physical punishment because I quickly realized the potential harm the use of these tools could do to a dog. This potential for harm is not only physical and psychological, it can destroy the trust our dogs have in us, and as a result, the bond between a dog and its owner may be corrupted. Since trust and respect are sides of the same coin, I feel the dog's trust in its owner must be protected at all cost. Along the same lines, I no longer use the word “obedience” in association with training due to its basic meaning according to The Oxford Dictionary, “submissive to another's will”. |
